Marian Filar


consultant for the application of the results of research programmes for the development of doctrine of criminal law and projects of criminal policy.
Director of the Chair of Criminal Law and Criminal Policy at the Faculty of Law and Administration of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. He was a Dean of that Faculty and the vice Rector of that University. He is the author of more than 200 research publications, including 12 monographies in the field of criminal law and criminal policy published in Polish and in foreign languages in Poland and abroad. He is specialized in the field of sexual criminal law, criminal law concerning liability of physicians, comparative criminal law and also broadely conceived questions of criminal policy. He was many times awarded for his scientific achievements.
He visited many foreign Universities and research institutes, inter alia in Germany - Freiburg, Köln, Bochum, München, in Italy - Rome, Padova, Ferrara, Syracuse, and in Finland - Rovaniemi. He fulfilled many functions in social and scientific organisations. He is a member of the Committee of Legal Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). He is also an active politician. He was the deputy President of the Tribunal of State, at present a member of Polish Diet (Parliament) and member of the National Council of Judicial System (KRS). He is married and he has one daughter.
