European Centre for Penological Studies is organizing on 20-24 of January 2024 workshops with Colleagues from University of Sussex: prof. Stephen Shute, prof. Mark Walters, dr Paul McGuinness, dr Simone Santorso, dr Lucy Welsh, dr Luca Follis and dr Hannah Mason-Bish. The primary goal of workshops will be for participants to present on their research so we may plan possible future research collaborations. Workshops will be organised in IPSiR ul. Podchorazych 20, Warsaw, by European Centre for Penological Studies in collaboration with the Chair of Criminology of IPSiR.

The former student of IPSiR ( B.A, and MA studies), and former phd student at Institute of Applied Social Sciences dr Karolina Całkowska-Krawczyk defended at the University of Warsaw the doctorate thesis prepared in the framework of European Centre for Penological Studies on the origins of modern penology especially in the works of American intellectual Francis Lieber.

In that way after some years of close and fruitful collaboration with the Center Prof. Mazoyer became the official Consultant of European Centre for Penological Studies in respect of Ancient History.

From the initiative of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Social Prevention and Resocialization the Council of the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Resocialization unanimously gave the name of Prof. Genowefa Rejman on the European Centre for Penological Studies.

The research project worked out in the framework of European Centre for Penological Studies won prestigious grant from National Centre of Science in Kraków: the Contract nr UMO-2011/01/B/HS5/03206. Title of the Project: Cultural Context of the Criminal Policy and of the Reforms of Penal Law. Multidisciplinary Analysis: Legal, Penological, Historical, Sociological, Cultural (Anthropological) of Reforms of Penal Law in Poland in the Lights of European and and International Tendencies. The Director of the Project Professor Jarosław Utrat-Milecki. The Amount 198 420 PLN, the time of realization 24 moths (2012-2013).

The unanimous resolution of the Council of The Faculty of Law and Administration of University of Warsaw concerning confering the post doctorate degree (doktor habilitowany) to J. Utrat-Milecki in legal sciences – in the field of law sciences with specialization in penal law for the book Principles of Penology, Penal Theory which provides in the second chapter the general principles of Culturally Integrated Studies and for all his scholarly achievements.

The interdisciplinary conference “Punishment in Science and Culture” held in Warsaw and organised by dr Jadwiga Królikowska the President of the Postgraduate Studies “the Support of Culturally Different Persons at Labour Market” of the Institute of Social Prevention and Rehabilitation of University of Warsaw, the Postgraduate Studies which started in cooperation of the University with the Equal Programme (with the same name) of European Union led by prof. dr hab. Tadeusz Pilch who showed a lot of good will towards initiatives of Culturally Integrated Penological Studies.

The new unique major of Social Prevention and Rehabilitation was worked out at the IPSiR and validated by the Senate of University of Warsaw and the Minister of Higher Education of Republic of Poland. In the framework of this new major three obligatory subjects of Culturally Integrated Penological Studies were introduced, namely: “The History of Penal Cultures” for the third year of the first level of studies of the major of Social Prevention and Rehabilitation: 30 h of Lectures and 30 h of classes, exam (4 points ECTS); “Penology” for the third year of the Legal-Criminological specialization at the first level of studies of the major of Social Prevention and Rehabilitation: 15 h of lectures and 15 h of classes, credit with grade (2 points ECTS); The Penal Theory for the first year of the second level of the Major of Social Prevention and Rehabilitation (M.A Studies), 30 h of lectures and 30 h of classes, exam (5 points ECTS).

in Warsaw at the seminar led by Prof. dr hab. Genowefa Rejman and organised by the Scientific Society of Criminal Law a new approach towards penal theory (Culturally Integrated Studies) was presented in the paper “Cultural phenomenon of Criminal Punishment“ (J. Utrat-Milecki). The paper was followed by the article of J. Utrat-Milecki “Cultural Context of Penological Concepts” (40 p.) [in:] Penitentiary and Postpenitentiary System in Poland (ed. Ryszard Musidłowski, Teodor Bulenda), Warsaw, Institute of Public Affairs 2003.
1998
the resolution of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Social Prevention and Rehabilitation of University of Warsaw concerning the opening of new optional subject “Punishment in Science and Culture”, 30 h of Lectures and 30 h of classes. The subject was taught each year for the students of the fourth year of IPSiR and other students of University of Warsaw from 1998 till 2007.
